Requirements for the UK and The Republic of Ireland
The United Kingdom (UK) has set up a similar system to ETIAS which comes into affect on 8 January 2025 for visa exempt non-EU citizens and on the 5th March for EU citizens.
If you are travelling to or through the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland you will need to apply to apply for Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).
British and Irish citizens do not need to apply for an ETA. You also do need to apply if:
- you have a visa
- you have permission to live, work or study in the UK (including settled or pre-settled status or right of abode)
- you are travelling with a British overseas territories citizen passport
- you live in Ireland and you are travelling from Ireland, Guernsey, Jersey or the Isle of Man
The ETA will cover you if you are :
- coming to the UK for up to 6 months for tourism, visiting family and friends, business or short-term study
- coming to the UK for up to 3 months on the Creative Worker visa concession
- coming to the UK for a permitted paid engagement
- transiting through the UK – including if you are not going through UK border control
The ETA came is affective as of 8 January 2025 and you must apply for one prior to travel.
